PhD Research Studentships in Epidemiology & Public Health, Infectious
Disease Epidemiology, and Biostatistics, including Statistical Genetics
We seek highly motivated applicants, with a degree in a relevant discipline,
for projects in the Departments of Epidemiology & Public Health and
Infectious Disease Epidemiology. Two Medicial Research Council (MRC)
studentships are available starting 1 October 2002 [please note that
eligibility for student stipends is generally restricted to candidates who
are 'ordinarily resident' in the UK, and that candidates who are
'ordinarily resident' in other European Union countries may be eligible to
have their tuition fees paid but will need to find funding for their own

stipends may be available for successful candidates. Closing date for MRC
studentships: 28th February 2002. We also welcome applications from

currently have 18 PhD students, and research grants totalling ca £16
million, including leading-edge work in environmental epidemiology, small
area health statistics, statistical genetics, health and hazard mapping,
cardiovascular disease epidemiology, reproductive epidemiology, Bayesian
hierarchical modelling, GIS and exposure modelling, trial design,
vaccination strategies, emerging infections, tuberculosis, malaria, HIV and
dengue transmission dynamics and disease pathogenesis, immune system
dynamics, pathogen evolution and drug resistance.
