MREC.

The Metropolitan Multi-centre research ethics committee (MREC) is
looking for an experienced medical statistician to joint the committee.
The Metropolitan MREC is one of the two new MRECs currently being set-up
in the South.
Meetings will be held on the first Friday of each month, between 09.30am
and 5.00pm,at The Medical Society of London, 11 Chandos Street London
W1. The service will be voluntary, but all expenses will be refunded.
Appropriate training will be provided.
MREC's carry out the ethical review of research undertaken on NHS
patients in five or more centres. A committee comprises of up to 18
members drawn from the general public and from professions linked to
health and social sciences.
The committees meet monthly for between four and eight hours dependent
on the business. Members are expected to give adequate time for
preparation and personal development. No remuneration is paid but
expenses are covered.
Knowledge of the NHS and awareness of issues relating to health research
will be desirable. Membership of a Local Research Ethics Committee
(LREC) will be an advantage but is not essential.
