The Design and Analysis of Taste Panel Experiments
Abstract:
In order to try to achieve consistency across judges, products (e.g.
meat, drink) are often assessed on a limited ordinal scale such as
1, 2,..8. When there may be several factors potentially affecting
scores as well as potential block, order and carry-over effects this
presents some interesting design issues which will be discussed.
Two obvious methods of analysis are ANOVA-based methods and
Ordinal Logistic Regression(OLR). The relative advantages and
disadvantages of each method will be discussed. In particular,
power curves will be compared and model checking/outlier
detection will be discussed in the OLR approach.
