Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow in vCJD epidemiology
Applications are invited for a 3-year post-doctoral position to explore the
current and future uncertainty in the course of the vCJD epidemic. The
project will further develop mathematical and statistical models that relate
exposure to BSE infection, to the vCJD cases and to data on the prevalence
of asymptomatic infection obtained from surveys testing tonsil and appendix
tissues. The candidate will join an expanding group working on the
epidemiology of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (including BSE,
scrapie and vCJD). The department undertakes leading interdisciplinary
research on infectious disease epidemiology, and offers excellent research
facilities and a friendly, intellectually stimulating working environment.
Candidates must have an interest in infectious disease biology and a strong
background at Ph.D. level in one or more of the following areas:
epidemiology, statistics, population biology, mathematics, theoretical
physics, computer science. Research experience in statistical analysis
and/or mathematical modelling, and programming skills would be an advantage.
Applicants should be able to work independently, but as part of a larger
interdisciplinary research team. Good communication skills are also
essential.
