FRENCHAY CAMPUS, ROOM 2Q25

ABSTRACT
Both statistics and the law are concerned with the interpretation of
evidence, but go about it in very different ways. This talk will
consider the contributions that probabilistic thinking can make to
the rational analysis of legal evidence, with emphasis on forensic
identification evidence (including DNA profiles). Drawing on recent
cases, I will address common errors and misunderstandings, as well as
issues affecting the presentation of statistical evidence in court.
The talk will last about 1 hour and everybody is welcome to attend.
