NFO Social Research, a division of NFO WorldGroup, provides high quality,
social policy research to clients in the public and voluntary sectors from
offices in Edinburgh and London. The division is currently staffed by seven
full-time researchers in our office in Edinburgh and a further three
researchers in our London office. In both London and Edinburgh social
research is supported by the company's in-house fieldwork and data
processing teams. Social research at NFO has grown considerably since it
was established in 1995 and we will have a turnover of over ?3 million in
the current financial year.
We are now looking for a social survey researcher/statistician to join the
team on a permanent, full time basis in our Edinburgh office. We work
across a range of policy areas and have particular interests in housing,
criminology, local government, education and road safety. While
contributing to all these areas, the post-holder would have significant
responsibilities in relation to the Scottish Household Survey, which NFO
Social Research conducts in partnership with MORI Scotland. The post holder
would be responsible for:
* providing advice on survey and sample design and post-survey data
management and analysis on a wide range of projects
* ensuring the quality and integrity of data files produced from the
Scottish Household Survey and liaison with Scottish Executive statisticians
* providing research support on all aspects of our social surveys including
design, analysis and reporting
* providing statistical input into data analysis using as multi-variate
analysis, weighting, and modeling for imputation
Applicants need to demonstrate a good understanding of social research
methods and statistical issues related to survey design and analysis. A
degree in statistics, a social science degree with a strong statistical
component or significant previous experience of working on statistical
aspects of large-scale social research projects would be required.
