'Multilevel Multiprocess Models for Partnership and Childbearing Event
Histories'
We are looking for a research officer to work on a 2-year project funded by
the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) under the ESRC Research
Methods Programme. You will need a higher degree or equivalent qualification
with a strong statistics component, at least 3 years' research experience
and a good publications record. You will also need experience in the
application of advanced statistical methodology in social research,
statistical programming, and managing and analysing large and complex
datasets. Knowledge of at least one of the following is also required:
event history analysis, multilevel modelling and multiprocess (simultaneous
equations) modelling.
The project will be led by Dr Fiona Steele, working closely with Professor
Harvey Goldstein and Professor Heather Joshi. The aim of the project is to
develop methodology for the analysis of correlated event histories, where
the risk of each type of event may impact on the risk of another. The
methodology will be applied in an analysis of the interrelationships between
partnership (marriage and cohabitation) transitions and childbearing, using
data from the 1958 and 1970 British birth cohorts (National Child
Development Study and the 1970 British Cohort Study). Further details can

You will prepare event history data from cohort studies, analyse those data
and contribute to the development of new statistical methodology.
The appointment is on the research Grade II scale, with a salary in the
range £25,451-£28,498 plus £2,134 London Allowance. For an application form
