Dear allstaters,
while reading galley proofs for a publication, I see the problem of
transferring German academic degrees into US/UK degrees.
We have:
German title - Subject
------------------------------------------
Dr. rer.nat. - PhD thesis in pharmacology
Dr. rer.nat. - PhD thesis in biology
Dr. rer.nat. - PhD thesis in chemistry
Dr. med. - physician, PhD thesis in Medicine
Dr. phil. - PhD thesis in Psychology
The journal (US based, Journal of Studies on Alcohol) has proposed to
switch all these degrees into PH.D, and the physician's into M.D. But
my German colleagues were not happy about that.
Is M.D. an academic degree like a PhD including a "PhD"-thesis or is
it just indicating that the person has done medical studies and works
as a physician now?
Can anybody comment on this please?
Thanks in advance
