At Nottingham, we are looking at our marking and results procedures with a view to easing the congestion in the timetable at the end of each semester.
With this in mind, I would be very grateful if you could answer the following questions:
(for institutions with a semester system)
1 Do you have an examination session (where the examinations are summative) at the end of the Autumn (first) semester?
2 If so, how long after teaching ends does the examination session start?
and
3 Is there a break after the examination session and before the start of the Spring (second) semester/teaching?
3 When do students get the results of their Autumn (first) semester examinations?
(for all institutions)
4 Please could you give an idea of the timing of your end-of-year results processing by providing the following dates (the order they are in is the order they happen at Nottingham but may not be the same at your institution!):
a) Teaching ends
b) Examinations start
c) Examinations end
d) Central marks deadline
e) School/Departmental Examination Boards
f) Publication of pass lists (for finalists)
g) End of session
h) Faculty level Examination Committees
i) Graduation ceremonies
5) Do students get their results before the end of session?
6) If not, how do students get their results?
7) What is the procedure for dealing with students who have failed modules (eg do they have a consultation session with their tutor and if so when does that take place)?
Many thanks in advance.
