Pamela
Special arrangements for students with long term disabilities (eg for
amanuenses, brailling etc) are reclaimed from the DSA. Last year the
Advice and Counselling Service managed to get money from the DSA for
those students who had used amanuenses. They will try to do the same
again this year.
Otherwise the College has a specific budget from HEFCE for students with
special needs. We're currently not quite sure how much of that funding will
be passed on to the Advice and Counselling Service.
Depending on how much of that budget gets passed on to the College's
Advice and Counselling Service, we will try to recoup what we have spent
this year from the Advice and Counselling Service. If the College does not
pass on enough of that HEFCE money we will try to recoup from the College
instead.
At the moment we are paying most of the costs ourselves in terms of
examinations (and since we have seen a 35% increase in the number of
applications for special arrangements this year, it's not unreasonable of us to
expect to get the money back since we have not seen a rise in our own
budget to be able to deal with this increase).
Regards
Andy
