Dear Pamela
At the University of Nottingham these increasing costs (the number of
exam candidates with special arrangements has tripled in the last 3
years) are simply absorbed into our examinations budget, or not...
We are currently reviewing our provision to ensure compliance with
SENDA and are considering the resources required, as we have reached the
point of requiring additional staff to manage these arrangements. It has
been suggested that if students are receiving DSA and this is paid to
the institution, that a portion of this may come to us if the student
has ongoing special requirements. I think we will continue to absorb
the costs of the few students that have special arrangements due to
accidents etc.
I would be interested in hearing a summary of any responses that you
get to inform our review.
All the best,
Anne

Hi,
I would be interested in hearing how other institutions deal with any
costs
involved for students with special needs for examinations or indeed
other
students who have to have one off special arrangments such as cases
where
students break an arm and need a scribe for the exams. The money
available
from our Student Support Office is limited and there seems to be an
increase in such examination costs and I am trying to find out what is
practice elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for any helpful responses.
Pamela
