Alex -
we have just done this, and it worked better than before in terms of the
number and quality of responses.
Basically, we did the following:
* governors and academic board seminar, including some scenarios
* governing body approved a consultation paper
* consultation paper sent to every member of staff and large list of
external contacts, person letter from VC to latter
* pro forma for responding to questions in the paper
* paper and pro forma mounted on intranet
* open meetings at each site, presented by VC, Q and A session
* analysis of responses shared with various committees and board and
mounted on intranet; also article in internal newsletter
* draft plan now being prepared
Most responses actually wrote letters (external) or used the paper pro
forma, but we did get some by electronic means.
Happy to discuss in more detail if you wish.
