Hi colleagues,
We currently use the Hesa/Census categories for our ethnic monitoring of
staff and students but we are considering whether to use the sub categories
as suggested by the CRE which further sub categories White British.
Is anyone else going down this road and if so, what would you consider to be
the pros and cons of this approach?
We are also looking into using a further sub category for Japanese students,
who make up a significant group of students here. We are considering
discussing this issue with a number of our students from Japan to see if,
given the option, they would self define their ethnicity as Japanese and
also under which heading they would put themselves.
Has anyone else used additional sub categories for their students and staff
and have any advice on the best way forward?
Thanks very much,
Lou Ricketts
