In addition to having the ability to audit JMU have also published the 'Sign
Design Guide' in conjunction with the Sign Design Sociey which is a very
useful and informative document. It is inexpensive and is available for
purchase through their website www.jmuaccess.org.uk

We used JMU for our sign audit of our County Hall.
They provided us with a report that included where all the signs should be
placed, and which would need to be tactile and have Braille. We then decided
on a corporate design for the Council taking advice on colour contrast. This
has now become part of the identity manual, and is there as guidance when
departments need it.
They have just started putting up the new signs in County Hall and they look
very smart too.
The first department to put them up did it as part of their review of access
to services and gained a charter mark for their front line reception.
The main question I get asked is how do blind people find Braille signs.
