Hi all:
the following couple of items from the latest DRC newsletter caught my eye:
11. UK tourist attractions fail hearing-impaired people
The majority of theatres, cinemas and tourist attractions in the UK are
inaccessible to hearing impaired people, according to new research by the
RNID.
A team of "mystery shoppers" visited over 100 attractions around the UK and
found that:
List of 4 items
. 50% of attractions had no loop or infrared system for hearing impaired
people
. 75% of venues had no visible loop logo
. 75% had no textphones
. Over 60% had no published information specifically for hearing-impaired
people.

The Tower of London and Edinburgh Castle are among the attractions
criticised. London's Tate Modern and Manchester United FC's Museum and Tour
were singled
out for special praise in the report.

12. DRC calls for tax breaks to businesses affected by new 2004 duties
The DRC has joined forces with business to call on the Government to back
access requirements for disabled people.
In a joint letter to the Paymaster General, the DRC and a coalition of
business groups led by the Confederation for British Industry (CBI) are
proposing
tax breaks for businesses to help offset the costs of radically improving
access to premises for disabled people.
Under Part III of the DDA, businesses will have to make their services
accessible to disabled people. For many businesses, this will mean adapting
existing
premises, and will involve some costs.
