Dear Colleague,
I know this subject has been raised before but I would be interested to know
what most Clinical Chemistry labs now do with pleural fluid requests. With
the risk of TB we appear to have the option of :
a) Not carrying out any tests on pleural fluid.
b) Selective analysis, perhaps after initial screening by Microbiology.
c) Attempting to carry out analyses in a safe manner.
Microbiology labs appear to treat such samples with a lot more precautions
than most chemisty labs I have come across. Please send me your comments and
I will collate them for general circulation.
Regards
Paul Griffiths
