Research Assistant in High-Resolution Seismology
Ref 02E 0346
We seek to appoint a research assistant in high-resolution seismology.
The post is available from early 2003 for 18 months, with
the possibility of extension thereafter subject to progress and funding.
The post requires experience in either multichannel seismic processing
or interpretation of wide-angle reflection/refraction data. You will
develop methods to determine in situ physical properties of near-surface
marine sediments. You will play a key role in the acquisition and
analysis of combined normal-incidence to wide-angle datasets to be
collected in late spring 2003.
You will join a large active group of near-surface marine
geophysicists based at Southampton Oceanography Centre, and will work
closely with staff based both in the School of Ocean and Earth Science
and the NERC Challenger Division for Seafloor Processes. Our facilities
include a full range of high-resolution seismic sources, together with a
unique multichannel streamer and recording system, and ProMAX seismic
processing software.
The position requires a Masters degree in geophysics or an equivalent
discipline, although a PhD is preferable. The appointment will be made
on grade ACRB/A dependent on qualifications and experience,
salary range £18,265-£27,339.
