A new website has been launched to campaign against children seeking asylum
being held in detention centres: http://www.chilout.org.uk
Children Out of Detention - ChilOut - is a group of concerned people opposed
to the detention of children seeking asylum from persecution. We believe
that children who are seeking asylum should be able to live, without
interference, in local communities. Immigration detention in any form will
never be in the best interests of children and is a flagrant breach of the
Convention on the Rights of the Child.
ChilOut.org.uk has been formed as an urgent response to the human rights
emergency in Immigration Detention Centres (IDCs) in Australia. The
desperate plight of hundreds of children incarcerated behind razor wire in
IDCs across Australia demands our immediate attention and response.
ChilOut.org.uk will also raise awareness about the increasing detention of
children in United Kingdom (UK) detention and removal centres. We are
further concerned that the new UK government White Paper published on 7
February, seeks to expand 'accommodation centres' where children seeking
asylum will be segregated and prevented from integrating with children from
local communities. On the website you can find information about the
situation of refugee children detained in Australia, and details of what
action you can take to support them:

We have organised an open meeting to plan activities about the situation in
Australia. Everyone is welcome to attend this. It will take place on
Thursday 7 March at 7.00pm
Committee Room 6
Friends Meeting House
173 - 177 Euston Road
London

On the site you can download a leaflet for the meeting:

Please disseminate details of the site and activities to anyone who may be
interested. For more info please email [log in to unmask]
