Everyone,
In my experience in the US it is either forgotten or ignored that the UK has
had a Black population for longer than the one in the USA, and that we have
had a settlement of people from the subcontinent since the 18th century.
Could we get it together to suggest a panel?
(I've not asked them if there is any funding available for travel etc for
those of us not supported by institutions.)

Dear Marika Sherwood,
Thank you for contacting me again. I am trying to work both direction;
tying up the last conference and starting up the next.
I think that your topic would fit within the theme of the up-coming
conference. I will send you, by attachment, the letter which our director
sent out to the previous conference participants with more detail on the
concept of the conference. Perhaps that will help. Although I imagine
you already have the Call for Papers, I will also attach a copy of that.
Thank you for expressing interest in the upcoming conference "Blacks and
Asians in the Making of the Modern World: A conversation Across Fields" at
Boston University April 2003. The deadline for the Call for Papers is Oct.
15, 2002. We encourage you to submit an abstract and CV for review. We look
forward to receiving your abstract.
