Dear colleagues
The next business meeting of the South East Region of the Society of
Archivists will be held at the Bodleian Library, Oxford on Saturday, 16th
November. The meeting will be preceded by tours of the Old Library and an
introduction to the exhibition of manuscripts and books celebrating the
Library's 400th anniversary. The Bodleian have just finished a four year
programme of renovating and upgrading the Old Library building, so it is a
particularly opportune time for a visit! For the afternoon, we have kindly
been invited to the New College Archives, situated close to the Bodleian,
which boast strongrooms dating back to the 14th century.
Non-members of the region are welcome to attend (programme and business
meeting agenda included below as both a WORD file and text). If you would
like to come, or if you require further information, I would be grateful if
you contact me know as soon as possible.

DIRECTIONS, ETC.
Bodleian Library: the Bullard Room opens directly onto the
Old Bodleian Quadrangle. Should you get lost or arrive late, head for the
public entrances to the library proper where you will be able to obtain
directions. For the tour of the New College archives, we will meet at the
archway of the Holywell Street entrance at 2.15 p.m. Both the Bodleian and
New College are situated close to the bus station, train station and the
town centre.
Trains
Trains head out of London Paddington every fifteen to twenty
minutes on Saturdays and take about an hour to reach Oxford Station. As far
as I am aware, there are no engineering works planned; however, you should
probably check a few days beforehand, just in case. For all train
information contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
Car Travel
For those coming by car, please note that it is best to
avoid the town centre altogether, if possible. The easiest option is to
head for one of the park and ride sites and travel into the town by bus.
There is no car parking available at either the Bodleian Library or New
College.
Disabled Access
Disabled members will have a couple of steps to negotiate into the
quadrangle and one more into the Bullard Room and the Exhibition Room.
Unfortunately, the tour of the Old Bodleian Library is not possible in a
wheelchair.
Food and Drink
Hot drinks will be provided in the Bullard Room for the
morning session. However, you will need to make your own arrangements for
lunch. There are plenty of good-quality venues in the town centre.
