*A2A Update, September 2002*
The A2A database at www.a2a.pro.gov.uk was last updated on 4 September. The
new catalogues include finding aids to hospital archives from 6 repositories
(Centre for Kentish Studies, Derbyshire Record Office, Dorset Record Office,
East Kent Archives Centre, Kingston Museum and Heritage Centre, and
Northumberland Record Office). Retroconversion of hospital archives
catalogues is currently being funded by the Public Record Office as part of
its contribution to the A2A programme, and more of these catalogues will be
added at subsequent updates.
Further catalogues from Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Record Service,
the British Library's Oriental and India Office Collections department, East
Sussex Record Office and Norfolk Record Office have also been added this
month.
There have been some recent staffing changes in the A2A Central Team. We
were sorry to say goodbye to Meg Sweet as A2A Programme Manager: Meg's
departure is due to her promotion to the position of Head of Records
Management Department (RMD) at the Public Record Office, and we wish her all
the best for her new role. In her place we welcome Louise Craven, who has
taken responsibility for the A2A programme for an initial period of 3
months.
A2A is the English strand in the UK archives network: its database at
www.a2a.pro.gov.uk already contains the electronic equivalent of over
400,000 catalogue pages describing archives held across England in national,
local and specialist repositories and dating from the 900s to the present
day. The A2A programme will make a further 300,000 catalogue pages
available on the web by March 2004.
