I am beginning work on my dissertation for the SoA Diploma, looking at the
theory, principles and practical factors affecting the processing of
personal papers. I am using additional papers to illustrate my work - the
original papers having been created by a politician and the additional
papers having been collected by his wife - about his career and their life
together.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had recent experience
sorting and listing additional personal papers particularly where a wife -
or similar- has collected them as opposed to her husband (or the creator of
the original collection).
I would be interested to know whether the additional papers were formed
into a subsection of the existing collection, became a collection in their
own right, or were formed into an associated collection (If the papers are
not considered to have been generated by the same process that generated
the existing collection and the material is too insignificant to have its
own integrity as a collection, then it is designated "Associated" at CAC)?
Also any thoughts on defining the provenance of this type of accession
would be welcome.
Thanks
