Principal Conservator
Managing Dorset's Archive Preservation Services

UKP22,341-UKP24,750
We are looking for an experienced and creative Archive Conservator to
lead our Preservation Services Division. Dorset is a centre of
excellence in this field and the right person will have the opportunity
to manage and continue to improve our preservation, conservation and
reprographics services. The post is a key one and is a member of the
Archives Service Management Team.
The job involves:
- Preservation and conservation services, such as policy and practice
development, the conservation programme, survey work, treatment,
packaging.
- Archive building maintenance and archive storage environmental
conditions.
- Reprographics services, including microfilming, the continuing
development of scanning and digital copying and the provision of copies
for the public.
- Preservation projects (currently Heritage Lottery Funded Dorset Parish
Records Preservation Project and New Opportunities Funded Dorset Coast
Digital Archive), including management to completion and developing new
projects.
The person should have:
- Experience of archive preservation, conservation and reprographics
- Good people and communication skills
- IT skills and an understanding of ICT applications for preservation
services
- Good motivation and team skills
- Project management skills
