Archivist (Royal Automobile Club archive): 2 year contract
Applications are invited for the post of Archivist (Royal Automobile Club
archive). The successful candidate will be an employee of the Royal
Automobile Club and will be based at Churchill Archives Centre where the
archive will be stored temporarily. The postholder will thus be integrated
into the staff, structure and organisation of Churchill Archives Centre
which currently has 9 members of staff including 4 professional archivists
and one conservator.
The Royal Automobile Club archive contains material going back to the start
of motoring in Britain. It includes a large number of manuscript, as well as
typewritten, original sources together with many interesting photographs and
other artefacts. It is an invaluable source for specialists in motoring
history and many other aspects of the past century.
The Archivist will be employed to work on the Royal Automobile Club archive.
The project will involve the full range of archival duties including,
appraising, sorting and arranging the papers and producing an electronic
catalogue. The post-holder will also play a role in the operations of the
Centre, including assisting researchers in the Searchroom. The post will be
for 2 years in the first instance.
You must be a qualified archivist with a good honours degree, IT literacy,
and a sound professional knowledge of descriptive standards. You should be
self-motivated and enthusiastic, capable of working as part of a team and of
meeting deadlines. Experience of dealing with the records of a modern
organisation, plus an interest in or knowledge of motoring, and a current
driving licence would all be advantageous but not essential. Applications

salary will be £18,655 per annum.
