Hello,
I am doing my dissertation for the MA at LUCAS on the use of volunteers in
Archive Repositories. There is a great deal of information and statistics
available about the use & management of volunteers generally, and
especially in museums with regard to the 'heritage sector', but very little
to go on for archives. So for my dissertation, my own case studies will be
the way forward.
§ Does your repository use volunteers? Why are they there? What type of
work do they do?
§ Do you have a volunteer policy? Do you provide training for volunteers?
§ If your repository doesn't use volunteers, why is that the case?
§ What do you think about the use of volunteers in archives?
I know that Resource has commissioned a survey by the IVR regarding the use
of volunteers in Museums, Archives & Libraries which has been completed,
but I have been informed that there may be a delay in getting it up on
their website. The use of volunteers is really interesting in itself, but
there just doesn't seem to be much information about volunteers & archives
out there!
Your help is much appreciated. Replies on or off list.
Thanks
Vicky Stretch.
