CUMBRIA ARCHIVE SERVICE
Temporary Archivist
(15,741 – 17,265 pounds sterling)
Cumbria Archive Service would like to recruit a temporary archivist for a
period of approximately 6 months.
Cumbria Archive Service is a large and popular service with 4 Record
Offices in Carlisle, Kendal, Barrow and Whitehaven accommodating
approximately 10 shelf-miles of archives. It receives about 22,000
visiting researchers every year and a similar number of telephone, postal
and E-mail enquiries. Cumbria Archive Service employs 30 staff.
We are looking for a temporary archivist to carry out the full range of
duties typical of a county record office. There is the chance to get
involved in running the public searchroom, cataloguing a wide range of
archives, and undertaking educational and outreach work. This temporary
post would offer a good opportunity for a newly qualified archivist who
wants to acquire a broad range of experience in a friendly and forward
looking working environment.
This is an exciting time for Cumbria Archive Service. We have invested
heavily in information technology over recent years, and we will be
launching our web-searchable catalogue on the Internet later this summer.
It is also the 40th anniversary year of the Archive Service and we are
planning a number of promotional and educational events to celebrate.
The temporary post will cover for staff involved in a temporary
restructuring of management posts whilst a Best Value Review of the Archive
Service is undertaken.
If you are interested in this opportunity, then please contact Anne Rowe,
County Archivist for further details and an application form.
