Part-time Archivist - Library & Information Services Department
£20874 - £24,788 per annum pro rata & benefits (17.5 hours per week)
The College is seeking a qualified and experienced Archivist to run the
Archives and its semi-current records management service. The main
objectives of the post holder will be to preserve the intellectual integrity
of the College's records and other holdings in accordance with professional
principles. Main duties will include the following:
* Management, in consultation with Heads of Departments and
appropriate senior staff, of the transfer of all records meriting permanent
preservation to the College Archives.
* Controlling and overseeing the transfer and storage of semi-current
records, preparation of disposal schedules, and appraisal of records as
needed.
* Recording and provision of access to College records and archives
for staff, Fellows and Members of the College and external researchers.
* Management of preservation, conservation and, where appropriate,
conversion to new media of records and archives.
* Provision of appropriate professional advice to staff of the
College.
* Undertaking outreach work as appropriate to publicise the College
Archives.
* Liaison with other archives, particularly the other medical colleges
to provide joint guidelines and assistance.
* Allocation of duties to, and supervision of the work of, the
Archives Assistant.
Applicants should have a postgraduate archives/records management
qualification or equivalent, plus relevant experience. A willingness to
undertake physical tasks and activities, good communication skills, the
ability to liaise and work with a wide range of people and attention to
detail are essential requirements for the post. Experience of electronic
archival/records management systems is desirable but not essential.
