Heather,
We recently invested in a Umax Powerlook 2100 XL at around £2,300 incl scsi
card.
This after much research and a similar enquiry to the NRA which I didn't
follow up on, hence this general reply.
It uses Magic Scan imaging software which is very easy to use.
You can get much much more expensive bureau type machines, but this was very
well reviewed as a budget - mid range machine.
It is a very popular product, so much so that there were none in the UK when
we ordered one, and ours was the first off the boat from Germany!
We also have an A4 version obtained previously, and we are very happy with
both machines. We scan masters at 600 dpi, very space heavy but give very
good results, which BT design contractors have been very happy to use in
outsize display panels.

Subject: Re: A3 scanners
I have just started work on a pilot project to digitise a number of images
in Warrington Museum and Warrington Library's collections. We are looking
to purchase an A3 scanner and I wondered whether anyone else out there has
recently purchased one/is using one and can give me any useful advice on the
best ones on the market at present.
From what little research I have done so far I understand they can be
prohibitively expensive.
I would be grateful for any advice on this.
Heather
