I would be grateful if you could bring the following details to the
attention of anyone who is planning to visit Warwickshire County Record
Office in the foreseeable future.
ACCESS DURING MAJOR BUILDING WORKS
PHASE 1 (12 FEBRUARY-JULY 2002)
The Record Office will soon be embarking on a £2 million rebuilding scheme,
funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Warwickshire County Council and The
Friends of the Record Office, to provide 90% more archive storage space,
double the number of seats, new reception and IT areas and a public
refreshment room.
Phase 1 is expected to start on 12th February and the Record Office car
park will in effect be turned into a building site. There will be no
parking along the drive, and the present car park will be occupied by the
contractor's huts and equipment.
We very much regret that VISITORS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BRING THEIR CARS,
MOTOR CYCLES OR BICYCLES TO THE RECORD OFFICE. Public access will only be
on possible on foot, and even then you may be asked to wait by the
contractors if deliveries are being made.
Please follow notices or instructions from the contractors or Record Office
staff as these will be issued in the interests of safety.
We will do all we can to enable disabled people to have access but it is
essential that anyone with a disability should contact us in advance so
that we can discuss their needs.
A map showing public car parks in Warwick is available on request.
During phase 1 the Record Office will continue to be open as usual:
Tuesday-Thursday 9.0-5.30, Friday 9.0-5.0 and Saturday mornings 9.0-12.30.
(Closed on Mondays).
PHASE 2 (JULY 2002-MARCH 2003)
From July 2002 the Record Office at Priory Park will close completely and a
reduced service using microfilm, microfiche, CD ROM and Internet sources
(but no original documents) will operate in Warwick Library until the new
Record Office re-opens in Priory Park in spring 2003. Further details to
follow.
