Dear All
If people will forgive, I wonder if I can lend further weight behind
David's comment about making sure you book early for the Jersey conference?
As the member of the Society's Finance Sub-committee responsible for
overseeing budgets for conference (old treasurers never die you see) I can
confirm that there are points during the coming months when the organisers
have to be able to demonstrate that key targets of delegate bookings have
been met. If they are not met, the conference will be cancelled. The last
I heard, the bookings were not coming in fast enough (though Denise and her
colleagues wil be mmore up-to-date than me this week.)
Jersey 2002 is an expensive conference that requires a relatively high
number of delegates to be booked in order to break even. If the conference
goes ahead with even only a quite small shorfall, it will cause a major
deficit on the Society's accounts, in other words a loss of members funds.
Consequently, it will be cancelled if there is a significant shortfall by
June. So, in big letters in the hope of catching people's eyes:
YOU MUST BOOK FOR THE JERSEY CONFERENCE NOW IF YOU WISH THE CONFERENCE TO
GO AHEAD.
I really hope that it will go ahead, so I can see you all there!
With best wishes
Chris Woods
