With the permission of the list owners I am circulating details of two
further job opportunities at the Worcestershire Record Office. Details will
also be appearing in the new SoA Job Opportunity publication.

Worcestershire County Council

Cultural Services

Worcestershire Record Office

ARCHIVIST (Acquisition and processing)
Scale 5-6 (subject to progression criteria) (job evaluation pending)
£15,741-£19,014 per annum

The Worcestershire Record Office seeks a professionally qualified archivist
to join the team in its Modern Records Unit. If you are self-motivated,
committed to the public service ethos of the Record Office and have an
informed awareness of the issues facing archive services then this is an
excellent opportunity to gain wide experience of modern records work.
You will work as part of a small team under the day-to-day management of the
Head of Repository helping to develop the modern records services of the
County Council, including retention scheduling, electronic records and
Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues. The postholder may also
be asked to undertake traditional searchroom duties when necessary, possibly
on a rota which may include evening and Saturday duties.
Experience of records management and computer applications would be useful
but not essential. More important will be evidence of good team work skills,
empathy with users at all levels, communication and interpersonal skills and
practical common sense.
A CORA records management computer package (a STATUS-based application) is
operated in the unit.
For an informal discussion about this post please contact either Adrian
Gregson or Teresa Nixon on 01905 766694.

HEAD OF REPOSITORY (Modern Records Unit)
Up to 31 March 2003 (with a possibility of renewal)
30 hours per week
Scale SO1: (job evaluation pending) £19,770- £21,078 per annum pro rata

As an experienced professional archivist, do you relish taking on a
challenging and crucial role within the Worcestershire Record Office?
An enthusiastic and self-motivated professional is required to take on the
day-to-day running of the Modern Records Unit during the absence of the
current post holder. This is a time of intense records management activity
in the County Council as it develops policies and practices to take account
of new legislative requirements, changing records media and the demands of
e-government. This post will be crucially involved in these issues.
The main aim will be to provide strong guidance and leadership to this
section of the service at a critical time. You will have oversight of a
small but busy team, sustaining the current systems and developing new ones,
covering records in all media. Development and operation of retention
schedules will be important. You will need supervisory experience and the
confidence to make and implement decisions. You also need the ability to
deal with senior officers of other County Council services. A CORA records
management computer package is operated.
You will also be part of the Record Office Management Team, and will liaise
with other specialist professionals addressing the critical information and
documentation issues facing the County Council at the moment.
The post is for 30 hours per week, which could be worked on a four or five
day a week pattern.
Candidates should have a relevant professional archival or equivalent
post-graduate qualification, with up-to-date experience and awareness of
records management of both paper and electronic records.
For an informal discussion about this post please contact Robin Whittaker on
01905 766353.

Application forms for both posts are available from Jill Baldwin, Record
Office, County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester, WR5 2NP. Tel: (01905) 766229
(24-hour answerphone); Fax: (01905) 766363. E-mail
[log in to unmask]
<mailto:[log in to unmask]> Minicom: (01905) 766399.

The closing date for applications is Friday 17 May 2002.

WORKING TOWARDS EQUALITY
We welcome applications from men and women of all backgrounds and ethnic
groups, including those with disabilities.
