Barclays Group Archives
Graduate Trainee Post 2002-2003
The Archives of Barclays PLC are centralised at Wythenshawe,
Manchester. They contain the varied records of many of the banks that
came together to form Barclays in 1896, or have been taken over by
Barclays subsequently. These records date from the seventeenth century
through to the 1990s, including the recently absorbed archives of The
Woolwich.
Also contained in the Archives are the records of Barclays itself from
1896 to the present day, including its subsidiaries and overseas
interests.
One Year Archives Assistant Post - this is ideal for an enthusiastic
graduate wishing to gain valuable practical experience before applying
to study for a professional qualification in archives administration.
The person appointed will take a full part in the small team that
manages the archives and can expect to take on a wide range of duties.
These include researching and listing accessions, producing publicity
material, answering enquiries from Bank staff, its customers and
academic researchers, as well as clerical duties as directed by senior
staff.
Barclays also has an extensive records management programme which the
person appointed will have an opportunity to see at first hand.
Current starting salary c£13,000. Interviews will be held in June/July
with the appointment commencing in September.
