HLF have advertised in the Guardian, March 13th for committee members in the
following areas. There is one vacancy in each of the following regions
East of England (desirable but not essential that applicants live in
Bedfordshire or Hertfordshire)
East Midlands (desirable but not essential that applicants live in
Leicestershire and Lincolnshire)
South East (desirable but not essential that applicants live in Berkshire,
Hampshire or Surrey)
The committees meet 4 times a year to decide on grants of up to £1 million
and also provide strategic steer and advise to the Trustees on regional
priorities of the fund. Candidates must be resident in the region covered
the committee and be able to devote approximately 1 full day per month to
committee business. Appointments are for 3 years in the first instance.
Members may claim remuneration of £75 per day together with travel and
expenses.
You need to demonstrate:
Commitment to protect our heritage, nationally, locally and to promote
greater public enjoyment and understanding
A broad experience of heritage matters and appreciation of heritage
priorities - specific heritage sectoral knowledge and of access and
education issues would be an advantage
Knowledge of the region covered by the committee - and ability to work with
other agencies and the voluntary sector to achieve the Funds objectives and
increase community involvement
A business, financial or managerial background which will help to inform
decisions
Experience of committee work and of grant making procedure.
