Salary: £29,847-£31,971 (pay award pending)
Cumbria Archive Service runs a decentralised service and has 4 public
offices in Carlisle, Kendal, Barrow and Whitehaven, as well as a Records
Management Unit and Conservation Unit in Carlisle.
Cumbria County Council is looking for a County Archivist to manage the
Cumbria Archive Service at a strategic and countywide level. Key
accountabilities include: managing the Archive Service budget (£705,000 in
2000/2001); developing a strategy for Records Management which takes
account of current legislative requirements; developing the role of the
Conservation Unit; developing the educational use of archives; developing
the effective and efficient use of ICT provision for public access to
archives; identifying and exploiting external funding opportunities;
developing strategic partnerships to ensure the development of Cumbria
Archive Service.
The postholder will report to the Assistant Director, Community and
Information Services. A minimum of 5 year’s experience at senior level
and appropriate professional and academic qualifications are required.
A current, full driving licence is essential.
