Dear All,
I am pleased and excited to announce that decision has been ratified for the
Society of Archivists Newsletter to undergo a major make-over later this
year. It is to be outsourced to the publishing firm DP Media with the
emphasis on radically altering the appearance, and ultimately, the editorial
schedule of the monthly publication.
May 2002 will see the launch of the new-look Newsletter. Till the end of
this year it was agreed to continue with the current schedule for receiving
copy. This is to allow for the necessary 'bedding-in' period. After this
time we are confident of reducing dramatically the time taken from when copy
is initially received, to when it appears in print. By this we hope to
solve the current drawback of news appearing out-dated by the time it
reaches press.
The editorial team is keen to see the first issue (which may sport a new
name), and those thereafter, packed with a whole variety of articles
representative of the work and ideas current within archives, records
management and conservation; this could include mention of cross-sectoral
projects. It hardly needs saying that the improved professional appearance
of each issue will only be as good as the content it contains.
Copy for the May issue should reach either Ruth Imeson or Jude Dicken by the
1 April, along with any images (DP Media prefer 300dpi jpgs or hard-copy
prints/slides); see contact details below. On the subject of pictures, we
are keen to create a stockpile of images reserved for the front-cover,
notably of archival documents. Again, contact Ruth or Jude for information.
The special issues already set for this year will of course be going ahead.
A big thank you must of course go to Pat Cleary (Executive Secretary of the
Society) for organising the change to DP Media, a change that has the
potential to improve the flow of information within the three professions
and present a more stylish profile to the outside world.
Many thanks.
