PUBLIC RECORD OFFICE
Senior Archivist
£25,329 - £30,957
Kew
The Public Record Office (PRO) is the National Archive for England, Wales
and the United Kingdom. Its holdings cover over 1000 years of history - from
the Domesday Book to the latest Government papers to be released to the
public. The PRO is at the forefront of the drive to make the nation's memory
and culture available to the widest possible audience.
The PRO's online catalogue, PROCAT was launched just over a year ago. It
provides users both at Kew and over the World Wide Web with a powerful way
of searching for records, including the use of free text searches, browsing,
indexes and guided searches. The system has been developed according to
current archival standards and using the latest technology.
We are now looking for a Senior Archivist to help us to maintain and
develop this system. Duties will include cataloguing (in particular
projects related to the delivery of digitised images of records),
supervision of editorial projects and training. This is a good opportunity
to work at the cutting edge of archive cataloguing in a world leading
institution.
You should be a qualified archivist, with experience of cataloguing in an
automated environment. Excellent interpersonal and team working skills are
essential, as is training experience. It is desirable that you have some
knowledge of digitisation issues and experience of staff supervision.
Note that this is a fixed term appointment until 31 March 2004. Secondments
are welcome.
In return we offer an excellent package including a non-contributory pension
scheme, childcare voucher facilities and a generous leave allowance.
For an application form (CV's not accepted) please contact Capita RAS,
