Oxfordshire Record Office has recently been surveyed by the Council's
insurers, which has brought up again the vexed question of how much we
should be insuring the holdings for, given that they are irreplaceable but
that if they are simply damaged it might be possible to undertake
conservation and repair. Our assumptions have always been based on a
notional sum per linear metre of shelving, which is probably way out of date
anyway.
Has any other Office tackled this problem recently, and if so would they be
willing to share their approach and perhaps even the figures they came up
with off-line?
