Response to Ishbel MacKinnon's enquiry and for the interest of any other
subscribers involved with edms projects...
Henry Stewart Conferences organises a conference for digital asset
management professionals, and the programme always includes a technology
selection component looking at best-in-class edms, incorporating text,
image and AV material. In the past we've had showcase presentations from
Artesia, IBM, Bulldog (now Documentum), WebWare, Picdar, Pine Tree Systems,
OmniBus, Quark, blue order, eMotion, OCSL, Ascential Software, Interchange
Digital and picturesafe, and we have events coming up in 2003 in New York
(25 & 26 March) and London (2 & 3 July).
If you'd like to be kept informed of the events, please reply to me off
list.
If anyone would like contact details for any of the 100+ edms application
and infrastructure providers we've identified, please let me know. I can't
offer an opinion on how good each is, but I can tell you who's who and how
to contact them...
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Subject: electronic document management systems
Does anyone have any experience of electronic document management systems -
sourcing, implementing or using ?
A colleague has been seconded to a large-scale research project, where the
use of an edms is being considered. The project will run for 7 years and
involves collaboration with partner Universities and health services in
several other countries (compiling and sharing personal information) - so
we are also slightly concerned about any implications this may have re.
data protection and related legislation (how does the international
perspective affect things ?)
We would be interested to hear from anyone who has been involved in the
information management side of any large research project (not necessarily
just health-related); and from anyone who has experience of, and/ or
thoughts on, the range, value, and potential pitfalls of edms currently
available.
Any advice or suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you,
Ishbel MacKinnon.
