This post is available immediately for a period of up to 4
years to provide additional statistical expertise within
the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. The post
is jointly funded by the British Heart Foundation and the R
& D Office (North/South Collaboration). The successful
candidate will continue a programme of analyses of the
Caerphilly Prospective Heart Disease Study under the
direction of the principal Investigator Dr J Yarnell, and
colleagues in Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow. The appointee
will also have responsibility for the development of
methodological techniques in cardiovascular genetic
epidemiology in collaboration with the Royal College of
Surgeons, Dublin in the MORGAM Project (a multi-centre
cohort study of candidate genes funded by the EU). This
project will involve close collaboration with statistical
colleagues in Paris and Helsinki. Applicants must have a
primary degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, statistics
or cognate subject with relevant experience of the
application of quantitative methods, preferably in a
medical environment. It is also essential that applicants
have a working knowledge of computers with experience in
using statistical software. A higher degree in Medical
Statistics, or cognate discipline, 2 years' postgraduate
research experience and publication of research reports are
all desirable. There may be an opportunity to contribute to
the teaching programme of the department, if appropriate.
Salary: RA1A £17,628 - £20,472, placing on commencement
depending on age, experience and qualifications.
