Can anyone shed some light on the following issue:
In a trial with 3 groups, two actives and one placebo, which method of
analysis is more powerful to detect a significant difference between only
one of the active groups versus placebo (assuming contrasts involving the
other active group are not relevant for a specific outcome parameter):
1. An ANOVA incorporating all data from the three groups and then perform
the pairwise comparison.
2. A t-test, incorporating only data from the two groups involved.
Does it matter whether the groups are equally sized or not ?
