Statistician/Information Analyst
Salary Range £16,137 - £19,629
(depending on qualifications and experience)
The Information and Statistics Division (ISD) of the Scottish NHS collects,
validates, interprets and disseminates information on the National Health
Service Scotland, providing support and advice to the Scottish Executive
Health Department, NHS Boards and Trusts and to a variety of professional
bodies and researchers.
This is an opportunity to join the Scottish Cancer Intelligence Group (SCIG)
within ISD. The role of SCIG is cancer registration, surveillance and
epidemiology, and the evaluation of screening and therapy. The Unit is a
well-established source of information on cancer used by clinicians,
policy-makers and researchers in Scotland and internationally.
We wish to appoint a Statistician/Information Analyst to work within a team
that deals with information requests, collates information for the web, and
collaborates on larger scale epidemiological analyses.
You will be involved in turning data collated by the cancer registry into
meaningful statistical analyses and to help non-statisticians understand the
findings. You will find this an interesting and challenging post that
requires good analytical and communication skills. You will also have the
opportunity to develop the specific statistical skills required in cancer
epidemiology, to contribute to research papers and to attend appropriate
conferences. You will be a graduate in a numerate discipline, preferably
including mathematics or statistics.
