The Queensland Cancer Fund (QCF) and Queensland University of Technology's
(QUT) School of Public Health/Centre for Public Health Research wish to
fill three jointly funded, collaborative research positions. The positions
will be located at the QCF Epidemiology Unit in Brisbane, Australia.
1. A senior epidemiologist (Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow) with
interests and experience in cancer epidemiology is sought by the joint
partner institutions to develop and coordiante research programs on the
occurrence, causes and/or outcomes of cancer (3 year position).
2. A senior biostatistician (Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow) is
sought to collaborate in and provide statistical support and analysis for
collaborative research programs in cancer epidemiology and cancer control
(3 year position).
3. An experienced epidemiologist (Research Fellow) is sought to direct and
complete the analysis of outcomes from the four-year pilot phase of a large-
scale randomised trial of melanoma screening in Queensland and to manage
some ongoing data collection (2 year position).
The three advertised positions will be based in the QCF Epidemiology Unit
in Brisbane, Australia. The successful applicants will participate in, and
assist with, the strategic development of the joint Cancer Epidemiology
Research Program of the Queensland Cancer Fund and QUT's School of Public
Health.
The School of Public Health and its Centre for Public Health Research, at
the Queensland University of Technology, is a large and diverse academic
department with a range of coursework and research programs. It has a
strong research culture in the range of public health areas, and has strong
national and international collaborations.
The Queensland Cancer Fund is a non-government organisation dedicated to
diminishing the burden of cancer through research, education and patient
care. One of the main aims of the organisation is to promote research and
investigation with respect to the causation, prevention, diagnosis and
treatment of cancer. The Queensland Cancer Fund (QCF) has recently taken
over the management of the Queensland Cancer Registry under contract from
Queensland Health and is expanding its research capacity in descriptive and
analytic cancer epidemiology through its newly-established Epidemiology
Unit. The Unit will address key questions for cancer control in Queensland
in the areas of cancer causes and prevention, screening and early
detection, and cancer management and outcomes.
