THE PRIVATE FINANCE INITIATIVE, VALUE FOR MONEY, AND THE EVALUATION OF RISK
A meeting at the Royal Statistical Society, 12 Errol Street, London, on
Thursday 4th of July at 1700 hrs. Tea available from 1630 hrs.
Professor Allyson Pollock, Chair of the Health Policy & Health Services
Research Unit at UCL, will examine the impact of the Private Finance
Initiative (first introduced in 1992) on investment in the National Health
Service where it was introduced in 1997. Has use of the PFI provided value
for money? How is value for money related to the transfer of risk? Has
use of the PFI increased the level of investment in the NHS?
It is expected that that a member of the Treasury will respond to Professor
Pollock's examination with a contribution based upon experience with PFI in
the NHS and in other areas.
Admission is free. But please notify Jonelle Lewis <[log in to unmask]> at
the RSS if you would like to come. It would be appreciated if you gave the
name of your organisation and said whether or not you are a Fellow of the
Society.
Fellows of the Society should note that this meeting has been organised by
the Official Statistics Committee in response to recent public debate on the
PFI and does not appear in the current RSS Diary for June.
Those who have not been to the RSS before should note that the nearest
underground stations are Old Street, Moorgate and Barbican. A map is
available on the RSS website at http://www.rss.org.uk/about/direction.html.
