An opportunity exists at the University of Edinburgh for a postdoctoral
researcher to work in statistical genetics applied to animal and human
populations. The successful applicant will develop, test and apply novel
methods to fine-map and ultimately identify genes affecting complex traits.
The post is part of a research programme led by Drs. Peter Visscher and
Sara Knott to develop methods and software to fine-map QTL in outbred
populations (see http://qtl.cap.ed.ac.uk/ for our software package QTL
Express). The research is in collaboration with Professor Chris Haley's group
at the Roslin Institute.
Applicants are expected to have a PhD in (quantitative) genetics, quantitative
biology, statistics or a related field, and preferably have postdoctoral
experience in genetic analysis of complex traits. Familiarity with Monte Carlo
simulations and Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods would be an advantage.
The salary is appr. 19,500 pound sterling per annum.
