Dear Colleagues,
Maurice Bartlett, FRS
1910-2002
I have just received an E-mail message from Penny Robinson, the daughter
of Professor Maurice Bartlett, FRS, telling me that he had died peacefully
in his home at Exmouth, Devon, on the afternoon of Tuesday 8 January. He
was 91 1/2 years old.
Maurice Bartlett will be remembered as an outstanding statistician, and a
pioneer in the study of Stochastic Processes. He first published "An
Introduction to Stochastic Processes" in 1955, and contributed much to the
field in subsequent years. He will be greatly missed by all his
ex-students, his colleagues and his many friends. He is survived by his
daughter Penny in Exeter (near Exmouth), three grand daughters and their
children (one of the grand daughters, Felicity, lives in Brisbane, but is
currently visiting Exeter).
