Department of Statistics
Two Lectureships: £20,267 - £31,896 p.a.
We are seeking to appoint candidates for two permanent positions
on the Lecturer A/B scale. The starting dates are to be agreed with
the Head of Department but must be no later than 1st September
2002. Candidates should be able to make a significant contribution
to research in Statistics and be an effective teacher. Departmental
funds will be available to support staff in this regard.
The Department has a strong research profile and has been
graded as 5A is the recent Research Assessment Exercise. It also
received 23 out of 24 in the recent QAA assessment of its teaching
provision. After filling these posts, the Department will have 12
academic staff including 2 professors (Murray Aitkin and John
Matthews). The Department also has 5 research associates and 20
research students including staff working in its Newcastle Statistical
Service. Research activity ranges widely across Applied Statistics,
Statistical Bioinformatics, Medical Statistics and Applied
Probability. The Department is committed to a high quality teaching
programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
