The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), carries out large-scale and long-term research in the terrestrial and freshwater sciences to support a broad user community. We address key environmental issues through integrated monitoring, process studies and predictive monitoring, and the development of essential infrastructure and facilities.
HEAD OF SECTION IN THE HYDROLOGICAL RISKS DIVISION
The Hydrological Risks Division is one of the four scientific divisions of CEH Wallingford (formerly the Institute of Hydrology), currently comprising three sections with 23 staff in total. A vacancy exists for an experienced researcher to lead one such section.
A proven ability in scientific research is required in subject areas appropriate to the remit of the division. These include generic modelling techniques, flood frequency estimation, risk analysis, uncertainty quantification, trend analysis, hydrodynamic modelling, forecasting, urban hydrology, impact assessments, rainfall modelling and spatial risk modelling.
Proven management skills are necessary, with respect both to staff management and project management. Awareness of current scientific initiatives and opportunities, together with an ability to contribute to strategies to meet these, is a key requirement.
The post is at Band 5 or Band 4 and the starting salary in the range £24,680 to £37,250 depending on skills and experience.
