Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit
PhD STUDENTSHIPS
The MRC Clinical Trials Unit in Central London has 2 MRC-funded PhD
studentships. The awards are full-time for a period of 3 years and are
available now.
The Unit is a centre of excellence for clinical trials and meta-analysis
in cancer, HIV and other diseases where there are important clinical
questions. The Unit employs a variety of medical and non-medical
staff, including more than 20 full-time statisticans.
Candidates will usually be registered with one of the colleges of London
University and degrees will be awarded by the University.
Applicants should have a good first degree in mathematics or statistics.
An MSc or Diploma in a relevant discipline is ideal.
The following topics are proposed:
1. Validation of prognostic models in cancer (Patrick Royston)
2. Using surrogate outcome measures to design multi-arm clinical trials
(Mahesh Parmar, Patrick Royston)
3. Genetic mechanisms of HIV-related lipodystrophy (Abdel Babiker,
David Dunn)
