Applications are invited from statisticians with an interest in
genetics and statistical methodology to work in a multidisciplinary
research team on the Whitehall II study. Funded by the National
Institute on Aging (USA), this post would suit someone who wishes
to make an academic career in statistics or who is interested in a
career in applying statistics to medical research. Candidates
interested in spending a minimum of two years in the department
on secondment and/or on a less than full-time time appointment
will be considered (minimum 2.5 days per week).
The post will involve collaborative work between the Department of
Epidemiology and Public Health and the Centre for Cardiovascular
Genetics. Key responsibilities will be: statistical analysis of
genetic and other data in relation to cognitive function, heart
disease, diabetes and onset of obesity (including prospective
studies of the APOEe4 allele and cognitive decline); and
selecting and applying appropriate statistical methods for analysis
of genetic data in the Whitehall II study. Applicants must have: a
postgraduate qualification in statistics; work experience in a
research environment; good organisational and interpersonal skills;
self motivation, the capacity to work in a team and the ability to
produce reports to deadlines.
Experience of analysing large and complex datasets is desirable.
