SENIOR DATA MANAGER/TRAINER
The MRC Laboratories, The Gambia is the Council's largest establishment (750 staff including over 80 senior scientists) conducting medical research in a developing country. The Unit aims to improve the health of people in developing countries by excellence in multi-disciplinary research programmes.
Recognising the importance the Unit places on data management, we wish to appoint a focused and motivated professional to an exciting post at the Unit. Your key aim is to improve the quality of data management by developing and implementing a data management policy for the Unit. Backed by excellent computing facilities, you will design, build and maintain databases for clinical trials and epidemiological studies, and develop the Unit's data management capacity through a programme of training and staff development.
You should have a postgraduate qualification in computer science, informatics or a related subject and at least 3 years' experience of database management in a research or clinical setting. A comprehensive knowledge of Access, extensive practical experience of designing and building relational databases, and excellent Visual Basic programming skills are necessary as well as familiarity with other database systems, e.g. FoxPro and SQL Server, and proven management experience. Training or teaching experience in this area would be an advantage, alongside your excellent communications skills and command of written and spoken English.
The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and within the Band 3 range (£26,163 - £40,640 pa). For displaced staff, the package will include overseas allowances, furnished accommodation, flights and other benefits.
The post is for 3 years, extendable by mutual agreement.
